US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, North Drop & Anegada

The United States Virgin Islands (USVI; also called the American Virgin Islands), officially the Virgin Islands of the United States, are a group of islands in the Caribbean that are an insular area of the United States. The islands are geographically part of the Virgin Islands archipelago and are located in the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles.

The U.S. Virgin Islands consist of the main islands of Saint CroixSaint John, and Saint Thomas, and many other surrounding minor islands. The total land area of the territory is 133.73 square miles (346.36 km2).[3] The territory's capital is Charlotte Amalie on the island of Saint Thomas.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI), officially the Virgin Islands,[3] are a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean to the east of Puerto Rico. The islands make up part of the Virgin Islands archipelago; the remaining islands constitute the US Virgin Islands and the Spanish Virgin Islands.

The 150-square-kilometre (58-square-mile) British Virgin Islands consist of the main islands of TortolaVirgin GordaAnegada, and Jost Van Dyke, along with over 50 other smaller islands and cays. About 15 of the islands are inhabited. The capital, Road Town, is situated on Tortola, the largest island, which is about 20 km (12 mi) long and 5 km (3 mi) wide. The islands had a population of about 28,000 at the 2010 Census, of whom approximately 23,500[4] lived on Tortola; the latest estimate (2016) is 30,800.

The North Drop is a deep oceanic trench just off the coast of the Virgin Islands in the Atlantic waters. The ocean depths quickly fall to more than 1000 meters, creating the perfect home for some of the world’s biggest game fish and other sea creatures. To fishermen around the world the North Drop is known as an amazing Deep Sea fishing location, and is a favorite haven for many local charter fishing boats. The North Drop is located inside BVI waters, but as it is only a short boat ride away, it remains a very popular fishing location for both BVI and USVI fishermen.

North Drop is home to an impressive array of fish species, but is specifically known for its prime blue marlin population. Sport fishing fanatics agree that the North Drop is a once in a lifetime fishing experience. A variety of tournaments and fishing events take advantage of the excellent fishing in North Drop every year.

Anegada is the northernmost of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), a group of islands that form part of the archipelago of the Virgin Islands. It lies approximately 15 miles (24 km) north of Virgin Gorda. Anegada is the only inhabited British Virgin Island formed from coral and limestone,[3] rather than being of volcanic origin. While the other islands are mountainous, Anegada is flat and low. Its highest point is only about 28 feet (8.5 m) above sea level, earning it its name, which is the Spanish term for the flooded land, "tierra anegada".[4]

At about 15 square miles (38 square kilometers), Anegada is the second largest of the British Virgin Islands, but it is also the most sparsely populated of the main islands, with a population as at the 2010 Census of 285.[5] Most of the population on Anegada live in the only village, The Settlement.

A fictional island called "Virgin Magra" (skinny virgin) described in the Rafael Sabatini novel Captain Blood precisely matches the topography of Anegada.
